As I was reading John 1:35-42... something struck me. Ever since I became a Christian, I always remind myself that we are the clay and our Father in Heaven is the Potter... and through the years of living a life with God and having this awesome relationship with Jesus... I still can't help wondering.. about the name of "Peter"
As we know, Peter is "Cephas" which means a small rock (Matthew 16:18). And some religious group think that because Jesus gave him a name "Peter" so, peter holds the key to the heaven and he is the rock who build the church. But, for years I have already learned that it was not like that. Jesus is the BIG ROCK (2 Samuel 22:3, Psalm 18:2, Psalm 62:2, Psalm 62:6, Psalm 62:7, Psalm 95:1) while peter is standing upon the rock (he is a small rock standing in a big rock).
But then it finally hit me. It was not just meant for Peter. It was meant for us!
and once we have accepted Jesus in our Lives, we will be like peter. (Clay can become a rock if you don't know that) :) We were only another human piece of clay, but Jesus Christ made a rock out of us ;)
isn't that cool?
:D
Trivia: Nearly 50x in the new testament peter was called "Simon", while others called him "Peter". And often he is called "Simon Peter" Perhaps the two names suggest a Christian's Two Natures: An Old nature (Simon) that is prone to fail, and a new nature (Peter) that can give victory.
The Clay that turned into small rock.
